This Special Release Pokémon Card Seeks to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company and the Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Fans can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop will operate both the physical location to online from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome packed with beautiful illustrations depicting creatures in their wild environments. The concept is the kind of research an in-world scientist could produce once trainers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created had the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's serious approach, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in ecology and behavioral science.

Why This Special Card Stand Out

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release cards for major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many of these collector items typically highlight the famous electric rodent who serves as the series face. What distinguishes this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, with fans able to get just one card with each transaction.

Curbing Speculator Activity

Per an official statement, a portion of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release will only be select retailers within the UK. Importantly, collectors will not be able to purchase this promo through the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those unable to attend, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City later this year.

"Every penny from purchases from the museum store and its web shop, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," the statement says.
