It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Return to Panem

The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This represents the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
3. The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 premiere.
