The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
