Arsenal's Debated Sponsorship Deal with Visit Rwanda Is Ending In the Upcoming Season

Arsenal Football Club has confirmed that its disputed sponsorship agreement with Visit Rwanda will come to an end in June this upcoming year.

Origins and Examination

The arrangement, reportedly valued at around £10m per year, was first established and has since been heavily criticized.

Such scrutiny is due to Rwanda's alleged support for the M23 rebel group in ongoing conflicts in the eastern areas of the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Earlier this year, Arsenal was accused of delivering an "outrageous" snub to the government of the DRC by not arranging a meeting with Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner to discuss the partnership.

Deal Composition and Aims

Visit Rwanda operates as a division of the Rwanda's development authority, which is a public entity.

There is broad consensus that Arsenal signed and upheld this partnership mainly to grow their following across the continent.

Nevertheless, the partnership has now terminated after both parties “mutually agreed” to part ways.

“Together, Arsenal and the Rwanda Development Board have exceeded the primary aims of the partnership – supporting environmental protection and eco-friendly travel, encouraging numerous followers to discover the country, and creating a lasting foundation for travel industry expansion,” read an Gunners' release.

The announcement added that the partnership has also aided Rwanda's objective to emerge as an global sports center in Africa and welcome more worldwide tournaments while executing grassroots football initiatives that have assisted numerous youth athletes and coaches improve their techniques and promote increased engagement in athletics nationwide.

Leadership View and Supporter Response

Richard Garlick, Arsenal's CEO, portrayed the arrangement as a “major expedition” and claimed it had been “driving forward” the club's aspirations.
