Cliff Scaling in the National Park

Including complete novices will rapidly be scaling sheltered regional outcrops on this weekend session. Participants will become proficient in securing the rope, belaying and several climbing techniques, as well as descending. Abstract Painting in Andalucía

Moclín, a ancient white village in southern Spain, around a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking location for this creative getaway. Artists of every skill level – even beginners – will learn how to plan and create non-representational pieces. Part of the schedule will be spent outdoors, working on guided exercises in the open. These charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be worked on in the studio, with participants completing several abstract landscapes in acrylics to be displayed in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the venue, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with views over the countryside. The cost covers five days’ painting tuition; full board; and an outing to the local castle and other local sights.

Ottolenghi-Inspired Culinary in Portugal

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, located at a riverside villa in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Guests will learn to produce meze spreads, attend a falafel-making workshop, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. There are trips to the local market and a local vineyard to taste local vintages, plus free time for strolls by the Funcho River, to relax on the terrace or swim in the pool. The accommodation, a former farmhouse, has five bedrooms, plus safari tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an uplifting, welcoming weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a high-energy group warmup, then several 90-minute classes covering various urban dance forms, then an hour-long freestyle session to show off new moves. Dancers are split into levels according to skill level, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, right up to experienced performers or teachers. This event doesn’t include accommodation but there are several hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is under an hour by rail into London.

Sea Shanty Break in St Ives

This coastal town is the excellent setting for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. There will be vocal warmups, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is held in a country house overlooking St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, such as a traditional tea on the first day, breakfast options, lunches to go and evening meals. Traditional rum, alas, is not provided. Writing in Crete

Author and lecturer an experienced instructor runs the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He explores topics including story structure, characters, locations and suspense, to submitting work to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – 10 private accommodations are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, budding authors mark the occasion with a musical performance in the courtyard and a final meal.

Beginners' Apiculture in Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses covering sustainability: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. This two-day introduction will help attendees get to grips with the basics of beekeeping, study the life cycle of honeybees and discover their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's sustainably managed forests, which are habitat for polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. Bed and breakfast the evening prior is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging for the weekend is £97.

Yachting for Novices in the Blackwater Estuary

These new weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are designed for novice sailors starting out or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. Participants can improve their steering, build their nautical skills and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s levels one to three in a fun, welcoming environment. There are non-residential and residential options, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterside training centre. The day option provides packed lunches, while the residential package includes two nights’ accommodation and all meals, from full English breakfasts to BBQ dinners.
